Arbor Day 2016 in Reading, PA, at the Northeast Reading Public Library.
In 1979 the Reading Shade Tree Commission installed a memorial marker and planted a tree in honor of Wallace Stevens, who was born in Reading in 1879. The memorial marker is hidden behind the library and few know of its existence. In 2016 the city planted a new tree, a scarlet oak, and Heather was asked to commemorate the occasion in Stevens’s honor.
Heather presents illustrated talks on poet Wallace Stevens by invitation as a community service. Stevens was born in Reading, PA, at 323 North Fifth Street, a house commemorated with a Pennsylvania Historical and Museum Commission marker, where Heather lived briefly as a child.
